Who Can Do WorkSafeBC Hearing Tests? Choosing an Authorized Provider
Based on WorkSafeBC's hearing test facilities page and section 7.8 of the OHS Regulation.
Workplace hearing tests in BC can't be done by just anyone. WorkSafeBC says this testing "must be done by an industrial audiometric business approved by WorkSafeBC." Here is how to check a provider before you book.
The Short Answer
Section 7.8 of the OHS Regulation requires hearing tests to be given by a hearing tester authorized by WorkSafeBC. Workers exposed to noise above the limits need a first test within 6 months of starting work, then at least every 12 months.
How to Check a Provider
- Find them on WorkSafeBC's list. The facilities and technicians on the hearing test facilities page are the ones WorkSafeBC has authorized.
- Note the IAB number. Each listed business shows one, for example IAB #436.
- Fixed or mobile. Fixed-location facilities test workers at their clinic. Mobile facilities bring the testing to your site.
- Construction Industry Program. Facilities marked with an asterisk don't do CIP tests. If your classification unit starts with 72, pick one without it.
Questions to Ask Before You Book

- Do you come to our site, and what do you need from us?
- Can you test every shift, including nights and weekends?
- Who sends the results to WorkSafeBC, and how fast?
- Where do we see results and who is due next?
