Before Your Visit

How to Prepare for Your Ear Wax Removal Appointment

A small amount of preparation helps ensure your visit is smooth, efficient, and comfortable. Our Registered Nurses bring all required clinical equipment - these simple steps help optimize your appointment.

Before Your Visit:

  • Avoid inserting objects into the ear canal. Do not use cotton swabs, tissues, or other objects prior to your appointment, as this may push wax deeper and make removal more difficult.
  • Use ear-softening drops if recommended. If advised by our team, applying ear-softening drops for 2–3 days prior can help loosen hardened wax and improve comfort during removal.
  • Prepare a well-lit, comfortable space. Choose an area where your nurse can safely position equipment and perform the procedure.
  • Remove hearing aids beforehand. If you wear hearing aids, please remove them before your visit and keep them available in case assessment is needed.

We will guide you through each step of the process and answer any questions during your appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here are answers to common questions about our in-home ear wax removal services across the Lower Mainland, Fraser Valley, BC Interior, and Vancouver Island.

Is ear wax removal painful?
arrow_forward_ios

No. When performed properly using controlled irrigation, ear wax removal is typically very comfortable. You may feel gentle warmth or light pressure during the process, but most clients describe it as smooth and relieving - with clearer hearing immediately afterward. If you feel any discomfort, we stop and reassess right away.

Who performs the ear wax removal?
arrow_forward_ios

Every visit is performed by a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) trained in clinical ear care. We do not send technicians or assistants. You receive safe, medical-grade care in your home.

What method do you use to remove ear wax?
arrow_forward_ios

We use professional irrigation (water-based flushing) performed with medical equipment designed specifically for safe ear wax removal. Before treatment, your nurse conducts a full ear assessment to ensure irrigation is appropriate and safe for you. If irrigation is not suitable, we will advise you and provide appropriate referral guidance.

Do you remove ear wax for children?
arrow_forward_ios

We provide ear wax removal for clients aged 12 and older. For children under 12, we recommend seeing a pediatric healthcare provider to ensure age-appropriate care.

How often should I get my ears cleaned?
arrow_forward_ios

This varies by individual. Some people never require removal, while others benefit from treatment every 6-12 months. Clients who wear hearing aids, earbuds, or produce excess wax may need more frequent care. Your nurse will provide personalized recommendations after your visit.
