Respirator Fit Testing Cost in BC: What Changes the Price

Respirator fit testing is quoted for your crew, your masks and your site. Here is what changes the price, and how to get an exact number in about a minute.

What Changes the Cost

  • Number of workers. We test groups of 5 or more at one site. Each test takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
  • Test type. Qualitative testing covers N95 and half-face respirators. Quantitative testing measures a numeric fit factor and is required for full-face respirators. It is for larger groups. See qualitative vs quantitative fit testing.
  • Number of mask models. Each worker is tested on the make, model and size they wear. Send your mask list ahead so we bring the right setup.
  • Other services on the same visit. Hearing testing, first aid training and custom hearing protection can go on the same quote.
  • Site access and scheduling. Staggered crews and early starts can change the final quote.

Avoid Paying for Retests

Workers must be clean-shaven where the mask seals, with no hair, jewellery or glasses under the edge. Share our prep instructions before test day. Read more on beards and fit testing.

How Often You Need Testing

WorkSafeBC requires a fit test before a worker first uses a tight-fitting respirator, then at least once a year (OHS Regulation section 8.40). Retest after a new model or size, significant weight change or dental work. Plan your budget for new hires and mask changes, not just annual renewals. See the WorkSafeBC fit testing requirements.

Testing In-House Instead

Large or busy sites sometimes train their own staff. See our fit tester training.
