Under WorkSafeBC's Occupational Health and Safety Regulation, a worker must pass a fit test using CSA Standard Z94.4 procedures before being issued a tight-fitting respirator, and section 8.40 requires retesting at least once a year. Retest also after a change in respirator model or size, or facial changes such as significant weight change or dental work.
We provide qualitative fit testing for N95 disposable respirators and suitable half-face reusable respirators, from 5 people per visit, with no individual fit tests. For larger groups we also provide quantitative fit testing, which measures a numeric fit factor and covers full-face respirators and tight-fitting PAPR facepieces.
Workers must be clean-shaven along the seal line, with no hair, jewellery or eyeglass arms under the edge. They should bring the exact respirator make, model and size they use, plus any gear worn with it, such as safety glasses or a hard hat.
Staff need to be fit tested on each new respirator model or size they will use. Contact us and we will schedule retesting as soon as possible.
