How Long Is a Respirator Fit Test Good For in BC?
Short Answer
In BC, a fit test is good for up to one year. Workers need a fit test before they first use a tight-fitting respirator, then at least once a year (OHS Regulation section 8.40).
When to Retest Sooner
- A new respirator model or size
- A significant weight change
- Dental work
- The seal feels wrong
Before the Test
Workers must be clean-shaven where the mask seals, with no hair, jewellery or glasses under the edge.
How Long It Takes
About 10 to 15 minutes per person.
