About the Client

Diverse Properties is a construction employer operating in Abbotsford, British Columbia. Like every BC employer whose crews work in noise, they are required to provide annual audiometric testing for workers exposed at or above 85 dBA.

The Challenge
What the organization was facing

Thirty-four workers needed annual hearing tests. Sending a crew of that size to a clinic means booking appointments around a build schedule, losing travel time in both directions, and pulling people off site on a working day.

There was a second issue, and it is the more common one. Many construction employers assume hearing testing is a line item they have to budget for. Under WorkSafeBC’s Construction Industry Program, employers in Classification Unit 72 do not pay directly per test, provided the audiometric technician is part of the program. The cost is already covered by their assessment.

Our Solution

Step 1: Confirmed the crew size, site address and the window that suited the build schedule.

Step 2: Brought the mobile testing unit to the job site, set up and calibrated on arrival.

Step 3: Tested workers in roughly ten minutes each, running through the day so the crew came off the tools in small groups rather than all at once.

Step 4: Submitted results and documentation, and booked the next annual round before leaving site.

What was included:

Mobile testing unit, calibrated audiometric equipment, WorkSafeBC-certified technician, electronic documentation and hearing conservation support.

The Results
What we delivered
34 workers tested in one day
No per-test cost under CU 72
No travel or clinic appointments

Client Testimonial

"Very professional, punctual, and insightful. Would recommend using them again on a job site."

Why This Approach Worked

Bringing the unit to site removed the travel entirely and let the crew come off the tools in small groups, so the build kept moving while testing ran.

Why This Matters

Hearing loss is the most commonly accepted occupational disease claim in British Columbia, and it does not reverse. Annual testing catches it while there is still something to protect.

For construction employers the barrier has rarely been cost. Under WorkSafeBC’s Construction Industry Program there usually is not one. The barrier is the day it takes.

Testing at the job site removes that day entirely. It is why this crew booked their next annual round before we had finished packing up the unit.
