About the Client

Avalon Gardens is a retirement living community located in Langley, British Columbia, dedicated to providing a safe, supportive, and comfortable environment for its residents. Maintaining current workplace first aid certifications is an important part of ensuring employee readiness and responding effectively to workplace emergencies.

To keep staff certified while minimizing operational disruption, Avalon Gardens partnered with Clear Health to provide on-site Intermediate First Aid training in Langley.

The Challenge
What the organization was facing

Avalon Gardens needed to certify 12 employees in WorkSafeBC Intermediate First Aid while maintaining normal day-to-day operations and ensuring uninterrupted resident care.

Sending employees to an off-site training centre would have created several challenges, including:

  • Increased travel time
  • Reduced staff availability during shifts
  • More complex scheduling
  • Additional administrative coordination
  • Greater disruption to daily operations and resident care

The organization wanted a training solution that met WorkSafeBC requirements while allowing employees to remain at their workplace and minimizing time away from their responsibilities.

Our Solution

Step 1 – Online Theory

Employees completed the required online learning modules before the scheduled practical training day. This flexible approach allowed participants to complete the theoretical component at their own pace while reducing the amount of time spent away from work.

Step 2 – On-Site Practical Training

Our certified instructor, Liz, travelled directly to Avalon Gardens in Langley to deliver the practical portion of the course.

Training included hands-on instruction in:

  • CPR
  • AED use
  • Patient assessment
  • Airway emergencies
  • Bleeding control
  • Medical emergencies
  • Trauma response
  • Workplace emergency scenarios

Step 3 – Practical Skills Assessment

Participants completed the required practical evaluations to demonstrate competency in the skills required for WorkSafeBC Intermediate First Aid certification.

Step 4 – Certification

Upon successfully completing both the online and practical components, all participants received their  WorkSafeBC-recognized Intermediate First Aid certification

What was included:

The training program included:

  • Blended online learning
  • Instructor-led practical instruction
  • CPR and AED training
  • Patient assessment
  • Airway management
  • Bleeding control techniques
  • Medical and trauma response
  • Hands-on emergency scenarios
